The San Mateo Brujos Club was founded in 1977 by a group of "futbol" players looking for a club
whose objectives were to play for fun, but still be competitive and make new friends. Most of our
members have played professional soccer in their countries. Three of our past Club members have played
in the Soccer World Cups, Ramon Miflin (Peru), Macho Figueroa (Honduras), and Chano Garrido
(Chile).
The Brujos Masters have represented San Mateo in several international tournaments. We have promoted
San Mateo by hosting teams from Mexico, England, Canada, Costa Rica,Argentina, Chile and the
Italian Parliament Soccer Team.
The term Brujos comes from the Spanish "brujerias" or witchcraft. The English translation for Brujos is
Witch Doctors or warlocks.
One of the objectives of the Club is to make trips abroad as much as possible. The Brujos began in 1978
making trip to Canada and Mexico to participate in international Tournaments. Among the Counties
visited sine 1978 are; Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Cuba and Peru in The Americas. In Europe, England,
France, Germany, Holland, Hungary, Check Republic, Austria, Italy and Switzerland. Our next trip is
in 2008 to Lima, Peru - Santiago, Chile - Buenos Aires, Argentina and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
At this stage in our history, most of our Club members have been involved in the community for many
years teaching hundreds of youngsters and young adults the skills and sporting culture of our game.
Several Club members continue participating as coaches and referees with youth groups such as AYSO,
CYSA, High Schools and Colleges. Several club members (12) belong to the San Mateo Elks whose
main objectives are community involvement and charity.
We believe it is true to claim that Brujos Masters have acted and continue to act as ambassadors and
leaders in the local area in the interest of soccer development.
