The German Consul to California established the BRD Wanderpokal
(Bundersrepublik Deutschland Travelling Trophy), in honor of the 15th.
Anniversary of the Founding of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Originally, the Tournament was a friendly competition among German
speaking soccer players in California. Since then it has grown into a festival
of truly International flavor, with soccer teams participating from Europe,
Mexico, South America and Canada.
The BRD Wanderpokal is an annual event held on the weekend of the U.S.
Memorial Day in the United States, Mexico or Canada.
In 1992 the San Mateo Brujos joined the tournament. Since then, The
Brujos have won several tournaments and hostted Wanderpokal in San
Francisco in 2000.
